The aircraft left Foulsham at 1724hrs and was attacked, apparently by two night-fighters, exploding at or over Assesse, ten miles SE of Namur, Belgium. The loss is credited to Lt. Erhard Peters, 1./NJG4 but was also claimed by Hptm. Franz Evers, Stab 1./NJG6. The crew had previously carried out one mining trip. br/>The aircraft's two gunners escaped with their lives, Mid Upper gunner, Sgt HA Lucas, managing to evade capture and remain hidden in Brussels until the city was liberated whilst his colleague from the rear turret, whilst F/S BS Haines RAAF, was taken prisoner and interned in Camp 4B, PoW No.267163. Those killed are buried in Assesse Communal Cemetery.
