Lancaster LL-851-BQ-S took off from North Killingholme the 21st of May 1944, at 22h40, to go to bombard the industrial center of Duisburg, in the Ruhr. In spite of the thick cloudy coat which covered the target, the objectives were able to be touched, paralyzing the zone of Duisburg for one year.
It was shot down by a German night- fighter, crashing at 02h15 22nd May 1944 into a field owned by Albert Van Hoornick at Heimolen (Oost-Vlaanderen) between the Wever and Heimolenstraat some 3 km South of Sint-Niklass, where all crew's members were buried in the town's communal cemetery. It had a total of 126 hours of flight.
LL-851-BQ-S was one of three 550th Lancasters lost on this operation. See: DV-309-BQ-S, fallen to Westerlo. The third plane lost, LM-319 fell down in Germany.
