Facts

The aircraft took off at 22:30 UK time Middleton St George. On the way to the goal, about 2 hours after takeoff, it is achieved by gunfire from a German hunter and the rear turret is immediately destroyed. The credit of this victory is attributed to Oblt Kollak Reinhard and time (Mainland) as 1:58, at an altitude of 5500m. The driver instructs the crew to prepare for evacuating the apparatus. Another hunter joins the first and Halifax has no chance. Therefore, the pilot gave the order to jump.

Three men will be killed: the pilot P / O Angus Hugh Bell, co-pilot F / Sgt John Albert Anderson and mechanic Sgt William Bryce Taylor. Buried the day after the crash at Fort III Borsbeek, they rest in the cemetery of Schoonselhof Antwerp / Antwerpen. Three others will be quickly captured: the browser AO Sgt Simpson, the upper gunner Sgt John F. Graham and rear gunner Sgt George Edward Aitken.

Robert Williston radio operator Joseph Arseneaut manage to escape before being arrested also.
