On 22 April 1944 RAF Lancaster ND715 of the 12th squadron took off at about 22.56 hours on its base RAF Wickenby (Lincolshire).
Together with 595 other aircraft, including 322 Lancasters, 254 Halifaxes and 19 Mosquito's, they would bomb industrial complexes in Dusseldorf.
During this bombing, 2150 tons of bombs were dropped. 56 factories were hit, 7 of which were completely destroyed.
As the bombs fell far scattered, no less than 2000 houses were hit and more than 880 deaths fell.
