Shot down by night fighter pilot Oberleutnant Rudolf Altendorf of the 2./NJG 4, flying a Bf 110 from Florennes airfield. The Lancaster exploded in mid-air, along the Chaussée de Beaumont, near Givry, Hainaut.

We presume that the pictures of the wreck were taken few days after the crash because we can see on the above one, Leunant Rudolf Altendorf, who hit the Lancaster with his Messerschmitt He took off from airfield of Laon-Athies (F) with his W/O Sgt Arndt. It is only 1 or 2 days later that he could be on the spot of the crash.
