Shot down by a night-fighter (Hptm Wilhelm Herget, Stab I./NJG4) Crashing 0400 into marshy ground and sinking into old mine galleries near Yves-Gomezee (Namur), 6Km NNW of Philippeville, Belgium. All attempts by the authorities to recover the crew failed and their names are perpetuated by the Runnymede memorial.
The crater formed by the impact of the aircraft remains yet today.
